Abstract

The caudal skeletons of young and adult specimens of Trichomycterus areolatus, T. chiltoni, T. mendozensis, T. heterodontum, T. borellii, T. corduvence, T. rivulatus, Trichomycterus sp. 1, Trichomycterus sp. 2, Hatcheria macraei, Bullockia maldonadoi, Nematogenys inermis, Diplomystes chilensis and D. viedmensis are described. The intraspecific variations of the caudal skeleton are described. This paper shows the existence of polimorphic elements in the caudal skeleton of Trichomycteridae. The evolutive trends of the caudal skeleton of Diplomystidae and Trichomycteridae are proposed.
