Abstract

The so called "Gateway of Sun", belonging to the Classic period of the Tiahuanaco culture, presents sculptured on its threshold a series of biomorphic -the Staff God, winged angels and heliomorphic figures, principally- which dispersion in Chile is analyzed through of its presence in wooden snuff table, petroglyphs, fine textiles and pyro-engraved bones. The pan-andean distribution of these conventions and the particular stylistic treatment they receive in different spacetime contexts, gives them quality of "guide-elements" capable of giving a global image of the initial instance of the Middle Horizon in Northern Chile.
