Abstract

A new amphipod of the family Podoceridae is described, based on specimens from the Aysen region, southern Chile and new localities for other two species, belonging to the families Ischyroceridae and Corophiidae, are reported. Podocerus chilensis n. sp. is similar to P. cristatus (Thomson, 1979) from New Zealand, with differences in characters of mandible, male uropod 1 and gnathopod 2 in both sexes.

The Ischyrocerid Jassa slatteryi Conlan, 1990, with wide world distribution and known previously from central Chile, extends its distribution in the country to the Aysén region, while the estuarial Corophiid Paracorophium hartmannorum Andres, 1979 is reported by the first time as a component of the freshwater amphipod fauna in southern Chile, based on specimens from Llanquihue lake and Maullín river, Los Lagos region. A taxonomic key for the recognition of Chilean species of the genus Jassa is included.
