Abstract

New background of the taxonomic identity of the central hall's whale of the National Museum of Natural History of Chile are presented. Currently determined as Balaenoptera physalus. Cranial features and
data the original length not available for the determination made by Yáñez and Sanino (2000), and a review of new diagnostic elements in the mandible, would note that the specimen may correspond to
Balaenoptera borealis. It is possible that in the future development of complementary molecular and craniometric analysis will provide a major source of data to clarify this situation with greater certainty.
