Abstract

The red algae Asteromenia peltata (Rhodymeniales, Rhodymeniaceae) is reported for the first time to the Hanga Roa beach in the locality of Easter Island on the Pacific Southeast. This species was recollected from the subtidal samples at 12 m depth on January 2010. The specimens do not have any reproductive structures and they were found growing over a marine sponge.
