Abstract

We report the finding of Alsodes montanus in the Chilean foothills of the Andes range, located in the O'Higgins region, on the way to Termas del Flaco. This record expand the limit of its geographical distribution 170 km to the south. In this new locality, the species can be found at a lesser altitude and its habitat is the streams that run along a deciduous forest, in contrast to the high andean environment of grass and bushes found at the Andes range of Santiago. We also show the diagnostic characters that allow us to identify this species (morphometry, vomerian teeth, interdigital membranes and sexual cornification) and a brief description of the habitat.
