Abstract

Archaeologies and paleontologies investigations in the semiarid North of Chile (IV Region) have recovered in late Pleistocene deposits an abundant record of extints mammals. In this record, the genus Palaeolama Gervais, 1867 (Camelidae ) is present, identified in superficial and stratigraphics contexts ín the Comuna de Los Vilos (31°S). The analysis of the fossils from the coastal semiarid permits to identify the presence of this extint camelid through the next diagnostic characters: (1) endostils in M1 and M2 , (2) a large size and diferences in the bone conformation in relation with extant camelids
