Abstract

Cryplocarya alba (Lauraceae), Quillaja saponaria (Rosaceae) and Lithrea caustica (Anacardiaceae) exhibit leaves with different hardness. Experimentally, we demonstrate that these differences affect herbivory on these leaves, where softer leaves are consumed with the highest frequency and intensity by herbivorous insects.
