Abstract

This paper deals with the description of two new species of the Phrynosaura genus; these are P. manueli sp. nov. and P. torresi sp. nov. The first one is restricted to Diego de Almagro, a locality in the Atacama desert (Third Administrative Region, Atacama). P. manueli and P. audituvelata are very similar and the main difference is the chromosomic sexual determination, likewise they are allopatric, P. audituvelata is restricted to the San Pedro de Atacama valley. P. torresi can be distinguished from the other species of the genus because it has a longer tail, and a pattern of little dots in a pale brownish background. P. torresi inhabits in the desertic lands surrounding the Calama town in the Second Administrative Region, Antofagasta. Furthermore, we report for the first time the karyotype of P. audituvelata. A discussion about the chromosomal relationships among these species is given.
