Abstract

Laguna San Rafael, in southern Chile, is characterized by the high specific richness of Menegazzia; from the
seventeen known species, thirteen are found in the area. M. chrysogaster, M. fumarprotocetrarica, M. norsorediata
and M. neozelandica are reported for the first time. Previous records on M. magellanica are considered doubtful.
Nine o f the species grow on Embothrium coccineum; some are also common in the Nothofagus woods. Notes are
included on their distribution in Chile and their affinities with Australia and New Zealand.
