Abstract

Liolaemus josephorum is described as a new species from the Atacama region in Northern of Chile. Comparisons with Liolaemus species show diferences in DNA as well as in the external m orphological traits. Both, osteological and scalation features indicate this species belongs to the «chileno» group o f the Liolaemus genus. External morphology associates this species to L. platei, however they differ in scalation; L. josephorum is quiet similar to L. velosi but they differ either in scalation as well as in the dorsal color pattern.
