Abstract

Four species of the Nolanaceae (Nolana arenicola, N. gracillima, N. jaffuelii and N. lycioides) are reported as the only members of this family common to both the Atacama and Peruvian deserts. These species comprise ca. 6 % of the total species occuring in both regions. Morphological descriptions, geographic distribution and specimens examined are provided for each specics. A revision of the taxonomical treatment by Mesa (1981) is suggested, specially in relation to polytipic species of chilean-peruvian distribution.
