Abstract

The benthic marine algal flora of San Ambrosio island (26° 20' S, 80° 58' W), Desventuradas Archipelago, has been studied based on recent collection housed at the National Museum of Natural History, Santiago, Chile, Thirty two taxa were identified, comprising twenty eight new records: 2 Chlorophyta, 7 Phaeophyta and 23 Rhodophyta. The benthic marine algal flora of the Desventuradas is very similar with that of the other two Chilean oceanic islands, Easter Island but especially Juan Fernandez. Species migration may be occurring from Juan Fernandez through fishing boat activities involved in the commercialization of the rock lobster.
