Abstract

The use of space and grooming behaviors were studied in two natural populations of Drosophila pavani adult flies. Both sexes of the La Florida strain show preferences for the lid of petri dishes to stay and grooming. Flies of the Chilian strain prefer the bottom of Petri dishes to stay and preening. We speculated that those interpopulations differences in space utilization could reflect differences in geo and photoresponses of the flies of both populations. Ethograms reveal recurrence for those elements of behavior involved in grooming; transitions between behaviors are poorly represented. It is believed that these findings reflect an independent nervous control for the behaviors involved in grooming.
