Abstract

The foliar epidermal characteristics of the Chilean species of Gymnosperms: Araucaria araucana (M o l.) K. Koch; Austrocedrus chilensis (D. Don) Pic. Ser. et Bizz., Fitzroya cupressoides (Mol.) Johnst., Pilgerodendron uviferum (D. Don) Florin; Ephedra andina Poepp. ex C.A. Mey., Lepidothamnus fonckii Phil., Podocarpus nubigena Lindl., Podocarpus saligna D. Don, Prumnopitys andina (Poepp. ex Endl.) de Laub. And Saxegothaea conspicua Lindl. are described. The size and location of the stomata on the leaf, its distribution on the foliar surface and the way they are oriented, prove to be elements of more diagnostic value to distinguish the studied species.
