Abstract

A new species of Glycymerididae (Mollusca, Bivalvia), Glycymeris (Glycymeris) taitaoensis sp. nov., is herein described. The samples where collected in several places of Newman Fjord and Crossiet Island within Golfo Tres Montes (Golfo de Penas, Aisén; Chile). It is characterized by the triangular outline of the dorsal third of the valves and prominent umbones whit curved opisthogyrous beaks. On the basis of previus works and the associated macrofossils, a Late Miocene age is tentatively proposed or the new taxon and the bearing rocks. A preliminar list of the associated fossils mollusks for each one of the localites where the material for this study was collected, is also added.
