Abstract

A new species of the genus Limatula S. V. Wood, 1839 is proposed for the coasts of continental Chile; Limatula (Limatulaceciliaosorioae n. sp, is described on the basis of the study of the morphology of the shell and soft parts of a sample composed by: 11 complete specimens and 37 valves, coming from San Vicente Bay (36°44’S, 73°9’W), collected in June 2002 in between 34 and 35 m deep. With the addition of the species proposed in this paper, the number of representatives of this genus in Chile increases to three: two for the Peruvian Province and one for the Magellanic Province.
