Abstract

The foliar epidemial characters of the chilean species of Proteaceae: Embothrium coccineum J.R. et G. Forster, Gevuina avellana Mol., Lomatia dentata (R. et P.) R. Br., Lomatia ferruginea (Cav.) R. Br., Lomatia hirsuta (Lam.) Diels ex Macbr., and Orites myrtoidea (Poepp. & Endl.) Benth. & Hook are described. All the taxa analized have hypostomatic leaves and a paracytic type of stomata. Shape and size of cells, anticlinal ondulations, cuticle thickness, presence of trichomes and size of stomata, prove to be good characteristics to differentiate the species considered in this study.
