Considering data from census reports and average figures of previous mortality and pregnancy rates, a demographic matrix was prepared to estimate the population growth of Arctocephalus gazella at Livingston island, South Shetland. According to this model a stable population structure was reached six years after the re-colonization. From this point, the annual growth rate would be 21°/o in contrast with the population at South Georgia that shows a lower rate. Probably, figures for the antarctic fur seal at South Shetland are underestimated due critically short period for census work.
