Abstract

Species belonging to the genus Glycymeris Da Costa, 1778 (= Pectunculus Lamarck, 1799), recorded for the Chilean Tertiary are critically reviewed. This study includes the redescriptiorl and up to day subgeneric position of each species, their age and other paleontological considerations of interest. The species under revision are: Glycymeris araucanus (Philippi, 1887), Glycymeris (Glycymeris) colchaguensis (Hupe, 1854), Glycymeris (Glycymeris) ovata (Broderip, 1832) y Glycymeris (Glycymerita) ibari (Philippi, 1887). Two new species from the marine deposits of the Navidad Formation, in Central Chile, are described. They are Glycymeris (Glycymeris) taverai sp. nov. probably from the Middle Miocene and Glycymeris (Glycymerita) ibariformis sp. nov. which is considered of Early to Middle Miocene age.
