Abstract

The foliar cuticle of the Chilean species of the genus Polypodium L.; P. espinosae, P. feuillei, P. intermedium, P. masafuerae are described; they are characterized by hipostomatic leaves, anomorphic cells, phaneropores stomata homogenously dispersed. Polocytic stomata occur in all the species, the anomocytic stomata occur only in P. masafuerae, always together with the polocytic type. Density of stomata, ondulation of the anticlinal cell walls and the dimensions of the subsidiary cell are characteristics usable to differentiate the species.
