Abstract

The floristic composition of N. obliqua and N. glauca communities in four localities of Central Chile was studied. There is no plant species that is characteristically associated to the Nothofagus species. A varying degree of chemical composition of the soil was found where N. obliqua and N. glauca grows. This could have influence on the flora of the communities under study. Some morphological characters of leaves of N. obliqua and N. glauca were analyzed. These species differ in the leaf-base angle, petiole and stipule length and in the number of intervenous spaces. Under coexistance N. glauca and N. obliqua shows similar morphological features that make them undistinguishable by the afore mentioned characteristics.
