Abstract

371 preys were determined with a seasonal distribution. Rodents are the most significant group in the diet of this owl and a correlated variation is observed between the rise of this item and the fall of the insects eaten. Akodon olivaceus, Oryzomys longicaudatus, Phyllotis sp. and Mus musculus are the rodents species more often eaten; on the other hand, their prey size the closest to the optimum size consumed by Tyto alba and that we can approximate to the pondered average of rodent preys. Four species of rodents consumed with the greater frecuency have an annual variation not coincident, bu t a medium size constant is maintained.
