Abstract

The analysis of different kinds of data lead the authors to suggest that the biotic development of both La Mocha Island and the correspondent continental biome has been parallel, beginning at the Miocene. In the island there are only 11 genera of tetrapods out of 31 found on the continent; at the level of the species, 12 are shared out of 52. There are no endemic species to the island. It is suggested that colonization ocurred by drift, being progressive until today. Absence of Carnivora provides support to his hypothesis.
