Abstract

The arthropod fauna of soil, litter, moss and lichen was studied in temperate rainforests and in man-perturbed fields of the Valdivian region (Chile). The fauna was extracted by means of Berlese -Tullgren funnels and the for- llowing structural aspects were analysed: species diversity (in bits per individual according to the S h an n o n index), density (in individual per 1.000 cc) and affinity according to the S0re n sen index). In all the natural formations an homogeneous level of diversity is reached, thus demonstrating a comparable degree of evolutionary maturity. The species diversity decreases in the man-perturbed formations as the degree of human intervention increases. In any case, these biocenotic man-induced changes are not so marked than in the cultivated fields of the Chilean Mediterranean region.
