Abstract

This paper deals with the morphogenesis of the epiphiseal complex in the chilean lizard Liolaemus gravenhorsti. The pineal complex emerges from a single diencephalic primordia and in the first stages of development has an open connection with third ventricle, closed at the last stages of embryogenesis, forming the pineal tract. The microscopic analysis suggests the existence of a pineal nerve.
