Spatial analysis of the distribution of domestic refuse can help to address how household units undergo
cycles of change, even in contexts where domestic architecture is absent. This paper presents the site
El Olivar and shows the beginning and development of its human occupation, and the growth of its
residential units. Based on this data, I argue that one of them developed a higher degree of social differentiation
through time. Furthermore, this research provides a glimpse into the Diaguita settlement
pattern, as a first step to understand their social organization.
