Una corona dental Mesoucrocodiliana aislada del sitio de pterosaurios cerro La Isla del Cretácico inferior en la Región de Atacama, norte de Chile

Resumen

Se describe el primer fósil de un crocodiliforme descubierto en depósitos continentales de la Formación Quebrada Monardes del Cretácico Inferior en Cerro La Isla, región de Atacama, norte de Chile. El material consiste en una corona dental pobremente preservada (SGO.PV 1160), cuyas superficies poseen crestas apicobasales muy próximas entre sí. Nuestras comparaciones de SGO.PV 1160 con la morfología dental de posibles taxa a los cuales podría pertenecer sugieren un folidosáurido; o más probablemente, un notosuquio actualmente desconocido. Por lo tanto, la corona dental se identifica de manera provisional como Mesoeucrocodylia indet., hasta el descubrimiento de material más completo. El presente hallazgo aumenta tanto la biodiversidad conocida en los depósitos del Cretácico Inferior de Cerro La Isla, como la importancia del sitio fosilífero; hasta el momento no se han reportado folidosáuridos en Chile, y si resulta ser de notosuquio, podría representar el taxón más temprano de este grupo conocido de Sudamérica y el segundo más temprano del mundo.
