In Erioderma leylandii collected at Laguna San Rafael (46°20'S), the accumulation rates o f 1 '-chloropannarin, a photoprotective compound of UV-A and UV-B radiation, were determined. It was observed significant increases in the compound concentration (p ≤ 0.005) in samples collected in year 2001, if compared to samples collected in 1997. The results suggest that the major 1 '-chloropannarin synthesis is a consequence of the UV-B radiation increase in one o f the areas o f the Southern Hemisphere more affected by ozone depletion.
